1. Cut a small slice from the bottoms of the squash and gourds so they will stand up.
2. Paint the squash and gourds white, allowing them to dry completely.
3. Paint ghost faces on the squash and gourds, allowing them to dry completely.
4. Write names of guests in black paint on the neck of each small gourd or squash.
5. Cut out ghost faces on one side of each bag.
6. Fill pots with candy.
7. Cover your table with the tablecloth.
8. Arrange the cheesecloth or fabric down the center of the table, pushing it into folds and ripples.
9. Arrange the bags, painted butternut squash, and candy cauldrons on the table runner.
10. Turn on the battery-operated votives and place them inside the bags.
11. Scatter the spiders on the runner, hanging some from the cauldrons and bags.
12. Set each place with a white plate, and top with a patterned black-and-white napkin. Place the orange salad plates on the napkins and designate the place settings with the named ghosts.
