Grilled Vidalia Onion Steaks with a Honey Dressing
The perfect side to your summer BBQ!
Serves: 4
Cook Time: 10 Minutes
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 large sweet Vidalia onions, peeled, cut horizontally into 1/2-inch-thick slices
- Kosher salt
- Black pepper
- Honey Dressing:
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon thyme
Steps
Heat grill until it's medium-hot. In a small mixing bowl, whisk oil and butter. In another small mixing bowl, whisk together honey dressing ingredients. Prepare onion slices by running 2 metal skewers (or pre-soaked bamboo skewers) parallel through each slice about 1 1/2"-2" apart. Brush both sides of onion slices with oil mixture and place on grill. Cook until beginning to char, turning and brushing often with oil mixture, about 10-12 minutes. Brush top side of the onions with the honey dressing and cook until mixture begins to bubble. Turn onions and brush other side with honey dressing and grill until beginning to caramelize, about a minute. Remove from grill. To serve, transfer to a plate and carefully remove skewers. Drizzle with remaining honey dressing. Serve warm.
